News Masts sometimes break
Bruinisse | Holland - After some maintenance last week at with our deckhardware partner OnDeck we had some difficulties during training. With a 15-18 knots wind it normally shouldn't be too hard to sail the 49ers.

After preparing the boats the teams did some upwind beats.
But the combination of a gusty wind and waves turned out to be too much for the old mast of 49er NED 760. Bob Kool sailing with a new crew broke his mast while going downwind, kite on and with great speed.
At the downwind leg just after hoisting the spinnaker the topsection of the mast broke at the joint . Helmsman Bob Kool: "We're quite lucky that we've received our new carbon mast last week, so we can sail on and compete at the Limburg Skiff regatta within a few weeks. Offcourse we'll try to repair the old mast with a new top section."
